Environmental Policy

DRJ Accountants recognise that our activities impact on the environment.  We aim to reduce this through conducting business in an environmentally responsible manner.

This policy applies to all staff including management.  Mandie Jackson is responsible for ensuring that the policy is implemented, however all employees have a responsibility in their area to ensure that the aims and objectives of the policy are met.

Our specific objectives:

1                   To use environmentally friendly products and practices wherever practical.

We will endeavour to purchase recycled goods where practical e.g., toilet rolls, kitchen rolls.

Paper used in the office for printing is made from 100% farmed forestry plantations, 40% of the forestry area is reserved for native species; this promotes wildlife and encourages biodiversity.

The fast growing plantations produce large quantities of oxygen while absorbing large quantities of carbon dioxide, helping to reduce the greenhouse effect.

Where possible we will use low energy light bulbs.

We will turn all electrical equipment off at the end of the working day (if practical).

2                   To reduce paper consumption wherever practical.

We will only print out what is necessary, if anything is printed but not needed we will reuse as scrap paper.

We will print and photocopy double sided whenever practical.

We will use emails for messages wherever practical.

3                   To increase our recycling rates for paper, toner cartridges, IT equipment, plastics and cardboard.

We will recycle the following products:

Cans – drink cans, tinned food cans, aluminium trays, and foil.

Plastics – Plastic bottles, cups, milk cartons, sandwich packing.

Paper – plain paper, newspapers, magazines, wrapping paper.

Cardboard – Boxes, corrugated packaging, cartons, fast food boxes.

All waste must be emptied of its contents before disposal.

When emptied the above will be placed in the two recycling bins situated in the kitchen.  These are then emptied into the recycling Biffa bin which is emptied fortnightly.

Please only place food, tea bags and general waste in the black kitchen bin.

Please only place recyclable products in your desk bins – not food.

Used toner cartridges are stored in the admin office and then collected by RNIB when the box is full.

IT equipment is reused where possible.

4                   To re use stationary products where viable.

We will always re use ring binders in all departments that are in a fit state for use.

When placing paperwork in long term storage we will always re use binders.

5                   To reduce energy consumption and associated carbon emissions.

Any equipment and appliances that can be switched off at the end of the working day will be.

Any appliances that are not needed for use every working day will be left switched off until needed.

Where possible we will use low energy light bulbs.

We will turn all electrical equipment off at the end of the working day (if practical).

We will leave strip lights and low energy light bulbs on permanently during the day as the switching on process uses more electricity.

We will:

1                   Communicate internally and externally our environmental policy and performance on a regular basis and encourage feedback.

Review our environmental policy regularly.
